Deaf Culture Lessons
Deaf/ Hard of Hearing students at residential schools tend to learn their alphabet and numbers through the usage of storytelling. The students watched and created their own alphabet and number stories.
ASL Lessons
Students have learned the alphabet, numbers 1- 55, shapes, colors, and related phrases. Some example phrases are listed below:
Your favorite color, what?
Blue, my favorite color.
Name something itself red?
Chair, (point to chair) red.
Pets, how many?
Pets, have four.
A few examples of shapes learned were sphere, cube, pyramid, cube, diamond, rectangle, and star.
The Following Weeks...
Student will learn vocabulary for body parts such as face, eyes, ears, etc. Students will also learn how to sign opposites like hot/cold or big/small. In the last week of October, students will learn how to sign animals from the farm, zoo, and sea!
