My name is Tara Williams and I have been teaching Beginning and Intermediate ASL at Patwin Elementary School this year. It has been nice getting to know all the children and they have been motivated to learn ASL.
On our first week we started to sign on Greetings and Introductions. On the second week, we signed on commands and useful sentences. On the third week, we learned how to introduce each other by our personal identity. On the fourth week, we learned more fun vocabulary on colors and shapes. We have been practice finger-spelling ABC's.
Children are learning pretty quickly!
Here are some pictures of these past two weeks:
They picked their favorite colors and colored in the shapes. We played a game called, "I Spy".
We practiced finger-spelling with Alphabet Bingo. They enjoyed that game!
We used Flower Pot (same as the game hangman, but it's a friendlier version of the game). Students do their Flower Pot every morning to continue practice on their finger-spelling.
It would be fun if you play "I Spy" (using colors and shapes) with your child(ren) at home. They actually like to "hide" their own colors and shapes and they think it is a fun game.
