Beg./Int. ASL- Patwin- End of October Post

Hello Patwin ASL Parents!

Your students have been very engaged in learning. They have learned their numbers from 0-30, and their shapes and colors. They have really enjoyed the color section of this curriculum. Try asking them to teach you how to sign red, blue, purple, green, gray, white, rainbow, black, brown and clear. Also ask them to describe the shade of the color, is it dark purple or is it light purple? I attached an image of some colors we learned.

In the upcoming weeks we will be starting on fruits and vegetables. One of the activities will be to create fruit bowls and have students describe all of the fruits they have incorporated on their bowls. The following week, we will be reviewing all of the signs we have learned thus far. The repetition is a way to reinforce and increase retention of the signs. We will also incorporate some festive signs to welcome the season and festivities.

I would like to note that every one of the students is learning and improving. I appreciate your support and would like to keep encouraging students to use their ASL outside of the classroom. This should become easier as the students' vocabulary keeps expanding. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, suggestions, comments or concerns. My email is gortizf@ucdavis.edu.
Respectfully,
Grecia Ortiz Flores
