Beg./Int. ASL- Patwin- Mid October Post

Hello Patwin ASL Parents!

First and foremost welcome to the TALK family! During the past couple of weeks your students have been working with Teacher Kiara and Myself (Grecia). We have gone over many introduction signs including hello, good morning, goodbye, nice to meet you, deaf, heard of hearing, hearing, thank you, please, sorry, help, etc.  They have also been practicing their abc's with the ASL version of the ABC song and their numbers 1-10 with a dry erase cube. They have been catching on very quickly, we have started a book that contains all of the signs that they have learned so that they can keep track of all the words. The students have also learned to play many games such as flower pot and four corners, the class favorites.

Every week we have a letter of the week, and they learn to sign and finger spell words that begin with that letter. In the upcoming week we will be advancing our numbers up  to 30. Then we will begin our shapes and colors. By the end of these lessons we will have learned how to play a card game that we will use to practice our numbers and I spy that will be used to practice describing the shapes and colors of objects. After these lessons, we will move on to fruits and vegetables.

All of the students seem to be improving their hand shapes and I am very proud of them. You can further aide their learning by asking them to teach you the signs that they learn in class, encourage they practice or even quiz them. I have attached an image of the ABC's hand shapes bellow for your reference but you may also want to ask them to how you how to sign the date, to show you what their favorite sign is, to show you how to spell your name, to show you how to sign their name and to tell you how old they are.
