Int Spa - Korematsu - Late Feb Post

Hola padres de TALK ☀️

These past two weeks the kids and I have been reviewing  clothing vocabulary as well as family members. We have covered  summer and winter clothing and making associations between clothing and body parts. For example, socks go on our feet. The kids learned how to conjugate the verb to wear (llevar) and also have learned how to describe their family members using adjectives and the verb to be (ser) and to be named (llamarse).

The kids did a variety of activities from playing match the pairs, to playing the hot seat which was their favorite! For this game, they got to draw on the big whiteboard. A kid sat facing the class and another one drew a clothing item such as socks, pants, skirt, etc. Then, their peers had to give the kid on the chair hints using body parts so they could guess what the other student had drawn behind them!

They also worked on sentence building and were able to verbally produce a sentence on their own describing a family member!

Here are some pictures from this week:

Intermediate French - DAC - Mid February Post

Bonjour parents!
This week at TALK we’ve been learning how to ask questions!

Qui: who
Quoi: what
Où: where
Quand: when
Comment: How
Combien: how many

We played jeopardy, I said phrases in French and they had to run to the papers on the table that had the interrogatory word that they would use to ask a question for that phrase.

Henry vit a Davis. - Où
J’ai trois stylos. - Combien
Je me réveille a 8 heures – Quand ?
Ça va bien merci. – Comment vas-tu ?
Je m’appelle Ali . – Comment t’appelles tu ?
Henry lives in Davis – Where (Où)
I have 3 pens – How many (Combien)
I wake up at 8am – When (Quand)
I am well thank you! – How (are you)
My name is Ali – How (Comment)

The game worked very well and I’m very impressed with how much the students retained from this week!

On Thursday, we celebrated Valentine’s Day by learning valentine’s day vocab and making cards! Here are some photos from that activity!

à bientôt!

Hola padres de TALK ☀️

These past two weeks the kids and I have been reviewing school subjects and learning how to express our favorite classes and which classes we are taking by forming sentences with the verbs the verbs gustar (to like) and tener (to have). We have also gone over body parts such as arms, hands, eyes, head, etc. and making associations with body parts and the five senses (sight, hearing, smell, etc.).

The kids did a variety of activities but their favorite one was to play with our beach ball. The goal of the game was to not drop the ball and to not repeat the vocabulary already mentioned! They also got to build their own silly monsters out of play-dough and had to present to the class what body parts their monsters had, forming sentences with the verb tener. This was a fun way to also review numbers since some of the kids got very creative and made silly monsters with multiple eyes, heads, and arms.

Here are some pictures from this week:

The kids got to practice school subjects with the beach ball
The kids competed in teams to try to recall words
A student made a monster with two heads

A student made a monster with 6 arms

The kids worked together to label the body parts of a drawing

Intermediate French – DAC – End of January Post!

Bonjour parents!
This week at TALK we’ve been learning about sea animals! We learned how to say different marine mammals like whales, and dolphins. We made “devinettes” about our animals using the verbs we had learned “vivre” (to live) and “manger” (to eat). Each student wrote their own riddle about their animals and read it out loud for the other students to guess!

Here are some examples of devinettes we solved!

Un Cachalot:
Je suis le plus grand predateur du monde
J’ai des dents
Je mange le calamar

A sperm whale :
I am the biggest predator in the world
I have teeth
I eat squid

Une otarie :
Je suis plus petit qu’une baleine
Je suis bruyant
Tu peux me trouver a San Francisco

A sea lion :
I am smaller than a whale
I am loud
You can find me in San Francisco
Le narval :
J’ai une corne
Je vit dans le froid

A narwal :
I have a horn
I live in the cold.
La baleine bleue :
Je suis le plus grand animal du monde
Je mange des petits poissons
Je vis au milieu de l’ocean
A blue whale :
I am the biggest animal in the world
I eat little fish
I live in the middle of the ocean

We also played one of our favorite games where the students used playdoh to form the animals and make another student guess! Here are some pictures from that activity!
