Beginner French at DAC - April

Bonjour TALK parents!

We have had a a lot of fun in class this month, we've learned about animals, professions and practiced asking and responding to basic questions.

The students really enjoyed our time learning about animals! We learned about:

  • Les animaux domestiques (pets)
  • Les animaux de la ferme (farm animals)
  • Les animaux sauvages (wild animals)
  • Les animaux du zoo (zoo animals)
  • Les animaux de la mer (sea animals)

Here are the students with some of their animal drawings:

The students have been doing so well with their memorization and always show up ready to learn, which I love! If you want to help your students practice at home, please encourage them to introduce themselves or tell you the date. You can also practice asking them "Comment ça va? (How are you?)"! I've really been able to see their personalities and creativity this past month and I'm looking forward to class-time we have left!

L’Europe:
La France
La Suisse
La Belgique
Le Luxembourg

L’Amerique du Nord:
Le Canada (Quebec)

L’Afrique:
Le Maroc
L’Algérie
Le Cameroun
Le Sénégal
Le Madagascar

Island Nations :
L’Haiti
La Guadeloupe
La Martinique

We played a game where the students had fly swatters and had to run around the room swatting the country that I was describing in French! It was very fun!

Every Thursday, I read a French book to the students but sadly we have read all the French books that the DAC has and are needing some new ones! So, if you have any French books at home and are interested in donating them to the program or even just loaning them for one Thursday it would be very much appreciated!
Merci Beaucoup!

St-James- Intermediate ASL

Next week is Spring Break for my students at St. James! They are very excited about Spring Break and learned vocabulary: spring, break, Easter, flowers, grass, allergries (who doesn't have allergries?!)

They also learned about professions. They learned that most of the professions require to sign "person" For example:

Pilot = "Fly-person"
Teacher = "Teach-person"
Manager = "manage-person"
Chef = "Cook-person"
Lawyer = "Law-person"

Doctor, nurse, cops, military, priest, president, etc are the professions that does not use "person" sign.

Have a GREAT SPRING BREAK!!!! See you in May!

Int Spa - Korematsu - Mid April Post

Hola padres de TALK ☀️

These past two weeks, the kids had a review week to freshen up on vocabulary we reviewed before (the much needed) break as well as professions.

The first week of April we reviewed some of the kids favorite topics, such as sports, emotions, food and the weather. The kids also went over the verbs to like (gustar), to have (tener), and to be (ser). We played a variety of games, such as charades, the hot seat, and headbands. The kids also worked together to make a weather report of what they thought the following week would look like in Davis.

This last week the kids started reviewing professions along with the verb combination to want to be (querer ser) and to work (trabajar). We played flowerpot, and pictionary; and the kids also made their own bingo cards by choosing their favorite professions. By the end of the week the kids were able to verbally express what they wanted, or not wanted, to be when they grow older.

Here are a few pictures from these last two weeks:

The kids played the hot seat to review emotions.

The kids practiced sentence-building by describing food

The kids worked together to make a weather report

The kids' finalized weather report

The kids worked on their bingo cards with professions vocabulary

For this upcoming week we will be reviewing places in the community to tie it back to professions :)

As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns do not hesitate to reach out to me via email at teguerrero@ucdavis.edu

Warmly,

Maestra Teresa 🌻

Beg ASL St James Week 25

Hi TALK Parents,

This week in class we learned and practiced signs for the rooms in a house. The kids know everything from bedroom to garage to laundry room! All week we also worked on an art project where the students drew each room of their house as we learned the sign for it. Now they have booklets of their drawings called My House! You can see some pictures below; try to guess which rooms they are!
