Intermediate ASL - St James

Happy Halloween!!

Teacher Sarah showed up to class as an "ASL woman", a playful twist for Wonder Woman. It was fun seeing everyone dressed up as a hot dog, wizard, and spiderman.

We learned Halloween words such as vampire, trick or treat, Frankenstein, pumpkin, etc. The students also learned about ASL/Deaf history this week. "Was all deaf people born deaf?" "At what age did the deaf people tend to learn ASL at?" They came up with really good guesses of those questions! The answer to the first question was: No not all deaf was born deaf. Some was born hearing, became deaf at later age. Some was born then immediately got sick and became deaf. Some was born deaf (like me), etc. The answer to the second question was: Various ages. Some learned right away when they was born, some learned at a later age, some learned while they was in elementary school, some never did learn ASL.

Happy Trick or Treating tonight!

Teacher Sarah
