Int Spa - Korematsu - Mid November Post

Hola TALK Parents!

These past two weeks we have reviewed sports as well as the verbs hacer (to do) and jugar (to play). The kids remembered so many sports from previous years, it was so wonderful! They also learned that in Spanish certain sports go with either hacer or jugar but are not interchangeable. For example we say "Yo juego fútbol" (I play soccer) and we say "Yo hago gimnasia" (I do gymnastics) but can't switch the verbs around. They also made their own bingo cards using sports vocabulary and got the opportunity to share in class what do they do or play in regards to sports.

We also reviewed food and drinks related to Thanksgiving. The kids got the opportunity to practice their writing by reviewing the verb comer (to eat) and the verb beber (to drink). The kids shared in class what do they eat and drink during the Thanksgiving break as well as their favorite desserts!! We worked on a week long project called Un mural de culturas. For this mural, all the kids contributed something to our Thanksgiving table and wrote down a few things they are thankful for. For example:
  • Addison drew some warm beverages like hot chocolate and is thankful for her family
  • Ana drew some delicious ham and bread and is thankful for food, her home and her family
  • Ava drew a very creative turkey and is thankful for gymnastics
  • Isaac drew some fresh sushi and is thankful for his life
  • John drew some colorful donuts and is thankful for sports
  • And I drew some tamales and I'm thankful for being able to teach your kids Spanish!
Here are some photos from this week:

¡Felices fiestas! (Happy holidays!)

Lastly, one of the kids turns 9 tomorrow! So we sang "Happy Birthday to You" in Spanish and we had some delicious donuts to celebrate his birthday!

I hope you are staying safely indoors. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to reach out to me via email at teguerrero@ucdavis.edu
